Our transformation programme ‘Creating Spaces for Growing Minds’ was completed recently, making our facilities some of the best of any prep school in the country.
We have spacious classroom breakout areas with retractable doors, a high-tech ‘Explore Floor’, a multi-media recording studio, and an Eco-Greenhouse. Our specialist drama, art, science and IT suites have also been refurbished and two new lifts mean the school is also now fully accessible throughout.
These new spaces give girls wonderful opportunities for independent exploration, self-directed learning and collaborative work complementing our outstanding teaching in classroom and specialist rooms. In recognition of the pioneering design, the school was awarded the prestigious ‘Innovation in Teaching and Learning Award in 2019 and commended for pupil experience.
The spacious Explore Floor has multi-screens and different areas which are perfect for girls to collaborate in small groups for research and project work. Girls made maximum use of the new space in the summer developing new event ideas for their Year 6 entrepreneurial project. It is also a very versatile space – at the flick of a switch with the multi-screens and a ceiling-mounted projector, the room can be converted into an immersive experience, for example, depicting London along the Thames, or a scene from a St Lucian rain forest.
Our library has over 10,000 fact and fiction books with a very child-friendly design and cosy corners perfect to encourage young readers.
The girls are very excited by the school’s transformation which was completed in Summer 2016. The spaces are incredibly freeing for teachers and pupils and provide wonderful opportunities for imaginative exploration and independent and collaborative ways to learn.
Here’s a brief animation we’ve created on transforming classrooms in creative spaces for learning.
Our spacious playground is the perfect place for outdoor learning.
We have garden and wildlife zones in the playground.
We have created a spacious area with tactile and sensory surfaces to allow children to explore and discover through their senses
Adding to our spacious playground is the stepped area we have built – amphitheatre style which the girls love.
