Happiness is the greatest motivator

A happy, secure child is also an energised and confident one. We believe growing happy and healthy minds is equally important as developing academic skills and intellectual capabilities. At Kensington Prep School girls learn not only how to develop their abilities but also their integrity, sense of community, and respect and sensitivity towards others.

Our ethos

Kindness and respect for each other

We pull out the stops to nurture friendships and a sense of community. We have a clear ethos of kindness and mutual respect. We want everyone to feel we are all working together as a team in the best interests of all the pupils. We have an Open Door Policy, and parents can feel confident of a welcome and a listening ear.

The pastoral care of our pupils is our utmost concern and we have an extensive buddying and mentoring programmes together with a dedicated counsellor and Welfare Officer on site.

We promote healthy lifestyles and eating habits and we are an ‘eco-school’ encouraging the girls to respect their environment and energy-save wherever possible. Nutritious and delicious food is freshly cooked on-site by our resident chef Darren and his team. Girls also grow produce in our school garden.

One aspect of Kensington Prep I find most compelling is the values my daughter is learning, which seem to manifest themselves in kindness to others, and a keen sensitivity to the world around her.

Parent

Research shows there are also wellbeing benefits of growing up in an all-girls school. Girls enjoy the freedom to explore a breadth of subjects – not biased by potential stereotypes of which subjects are more suited to particular genders. They also have the space to explore their individual identities without potentially more dominating male counterparts both in discussion and play scenarios.

According to research girls are able to meet intellectual and physical challenges more readily in an all-girls school. Girls mature more quickly than boys and a girl-focused approach, especially at this young age and growing into puberty, embeds confidence and calmness.

British values

In accordance with UK government guidance from the Department for Education we promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. At Kensington Prep, these values are embedded into our PSHE curriculum as well as everyday school life, in order to successfully prepare children for life in modern Britain.

Our school community is based on an ethos of mutual respect and consideration. We are committed to providing a safe and happy learning environment for all.

We do not tolerate racial discrimination, harassment or victimisation of any kind.

All GDST schools strive to be inclusive environments in which the wellbeing of every young person comes first, and where every girl – no matter her background – can learn without limits.

Eco school

We are going for the top Eco-School award having been holders of the nationally recognised silver Eco-Schools award for the school’s efforts to promote environmental awareness and healthy living.

School Travel Plan

We encourage girls to walk or scoot to school wherever possible and the school has achieved ‘Silver’ accreditation for its travel plan.
