There are fantastic facilities for sport and PE with two floodlit netball, tennis and hockey courts on-site. In the early years and KS1 the girls take part in four PE lessons a week and one Games Lesson. KS2 have two PE lessons and a games afternoon each week. Year 2,3 & 4 participate in swimming at Fulham Pools throughout the year.

Physical Education & Games at Kensington Prep

Physical Education complements academic teaching within Kensington Prep: we nurture and develop the ability and confidence of all our girls in a range of physical activities.

Our varied PE curriculum gives girls the opportunity to develop fundamental movements, physical literacy and creativity in activities such as Dance, Gymnastics and Fitness. Within the Games programme skills developed include competitiveness, leadership, sportsmanship, and teamwork in a range of team sports throughout the year: Netball, Hockey, Football and Cricket.

The balanced provision of physical activities with competitive opportunities means the girls leave school with a lifelong passion for physical activity and sport.

Extra-Curricular Clubs

The PE Department offers an extensive range of before and after sports clubs throughout the week. After school clubs include both Rhythmic and Artistic gymnastics, both run by our very experienced gymnastics coaches, and team sports which take place daily including netball, football and cricket. Swimming squad is held once a week at Fulham pools, any girls who are keen to attend will take part in trials held at the start of every term. Girls from Year 3 upwards have the opportunity to start their day once a week running around Hurlingham Park.

Fixtures

We have a packed fixture list and girls are high achievers in local and national tournaments.

Girls are introduced to competitive fixtures within Games from Year 3. Each year group will have inter-class and inter-house fixtures each term including external fixtures all taking place within the game’s afternoons. The number of fixtures each year participates in gradually increases as the girls move up to Year 6. Attending GDST Rallies, Galas and Tournaments throughout the year is a real incentive for our girls.

Older girls in Year 6 also have tasters trying out broader sports including water sports, outdoor adventure activities, climbing wall and self-defence techniques alongside taking the young leaders award.
