As an integral part of life at Kensington Prep School, Drama is an area of study in its own right as well as a cross-curricular learning medium. It reflects a variety of styles, genres and approaches whilst offering every child the chance of success.

Drama is a practical and social art form that draws on the knowledge, interests and enthusiasm of those involved. The subject is taught by a specialist drama teacher from Year 1 through to Year 6 and every class has one lesson a week that lasts between 30 to 45 minutes.

Drama is taught in a process-led way whereby the girls learn about drama skills and techniques through schemes of work that follow a narrative. The girls also explore play texts offering them the chance to explore script work and of course, the yearly production for each year group is always met with eagerness and excitement.

Recent productions include ‘Olivia!’ (2023), ‘Pirates Versus Mermaids’ (2023), ‘Children of the World’ (2022), ‘Hoodwinked’ (2022), ‘Ye-Ha’ (2022) and ‘Treachery at Traitors’ Quay’ (2021).

LAMDA is also offered at Kensington Prep School with the opportunity for girls to take exams in communication (performance of poetry and discussion), accredited by LAMDA themselves. We currently offer LAMDA to Years 3, 4, 5 and 6
