STEAM Week ‘Change and Adapt’

STEAM Week ‘Change and Adapt’

Our recent STEAM Week immersed the girls in the exciting world of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths.

This year, we focused on the theme of ‘Change and Adapt’, with a special emphasis on the evolution of textiles and how we can make more sustainable choices.

Throughout the week, the girls engaged in workshops, talks and hands-on classroom activities designed to ignite curiosity and inspire creativity. One of the highlights was the STEAM Week launch by Professor Becky Earley, a leading sustainable fashion textile designer and co-founder of the Centre for Circular Design at Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London.

Professor Earley began the week with a fascinating assembly for Years 1 to 6 where she shared her career journey and answered a flurry of enthusiastic questions from the girls about the future of fashion and textile innovation. Following the assembly, she led practical workshops: pupils in Years 3 to 6 explored heat-pressing techniques, while Years 1 and 2 experimented with anthotypes and cyanotypes – unique forms of photographic printing using natural materials.

Other highlights included a Robotics Workshop for Reception, a visit from the Fashion Innovation Agency, and a school-wide Inter-House STEAM Quiz. A particular favourite was this year’s collaborative DT project, where pupils from Years 3 to 6 worked in mixed-year groups to design a school uniform for the future. Using old summer dresses as their base materials, the girls developed imaginative and sustainable designs that reflected the theme of adaptability in a changing world.

Guest speakers and parent volunteers also played a key role throughout the week, generously sharing their expertise and personal STEAM journeys. Their contributions enriched the girls’ learning experience and showcased the real-world relevance of STEAM subjects.

It was an inspiring week that captured the excitement and possibility within Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths. Head to our Instagram to see more highlights.
