RUN 289km – to help London families

An inventive team of seven 10 and 11-year-olds have committed to run a total of 289 km – the ‘virtual’ route covering all 40 Acute Care London hospitals from Hillingdon Hospital to Royal Marsden Hospital. They have already raised almost over £3,000 of their £7,000 target. Please give generously to JustGiving

They invented their RUN 289 fundraising appeal to make a difference to children struggling in London as a result of their lives being turned upside down by Coronavirus. “We have heard of the challenges local children and families are facing as a result of the lockdown and not being able to go to school,” say friends Apolline, Clara, Emily, Freya, Imogen, Lilly and Maya in Year 6.

“We are raising money to help families who are worried about getting enough food. We also want to help where we can with funds for digital devices, to ensure that the children who can’t currently access their lessons can continue with their education.”

Each girl has committed to run 1.5km (separately) every day for 28 consecutive days, a combined daily distance of 10.5 km. They started on 11th May and are due to finish on 7th June.

Donations are going to the school’s registered fundraising charity and will be distributed to local schools and families through the local school head teacher network.

Our headteacher Mrs Hulme-McKibbin has been in touch with local schools. “Go girls! I know speaking to other head teachers locally how tough school closures have been for many families in London. We’ve been supporting their school food banks – schools before lockdown had nearly 50% of their pupils receiving free school meals. I’m thrilled that these seven pupils have been so imaginative and committed to try to make a difference and raise much needed funds that local schools can distribute directly to families in need.”
