Kensington Prep School has up to 300 girls from age of 4 to 11 years. The school was founded in 1873 and was the first school to be established by the Girls' Day School Trust (GDST) which has long been at the forefront of education for girls. The school moved to its current location in Fulham in 1997.
Most girls join the school in Reception, aged 4+ and spend seven years in the school, moving on from Reception through Year 1 - 6 (age 11+). Entry to the school is selective and the offer of a place is based on assessment.
Each year is divided into two balanced parallel classes of about 20 pupils.
The school is regarded as one of the top prep schools in London and country and received an outstanding Inspection Report in 2009. It was named 'Independent Prep School of the Year' in 2009/10 by the Sunday Times Parent Power for its consistently strong academic results, inspiring leadership and innovative curriculum.
An all-girl education
At Kensington Prep School we strongly believe that young girls benefit from attending an all-girl school. We find that in the absence of boys, girls are more willing to learn to take intellectual and physical risks. Visitors notice a calm, work-focussed atmosphere. Girls tend to mature more quickly than boys and, therefore, require a different approach to teaching. For the majority of girls, single sex education seems to work best.
