Kensington Prep School is named
Sunday Times 'Independent Prep School of the Year’
Kensington Prep School has been named ‘Independent Prep School of the Year’ by the Sunday Times. The award has been given in recognition of the consistent high academic standards that the school achieves, ‘the inspiring leadership of the head’, and innovations in the curriculum, the Sunday Times explains.
Kensington Prep has risen to 7th in The Sunday Times Parent Power table of independent preparatory schools rising from 19th two years ago. The award reflects the school’s ranking in the performance table, but several other factors are also taken into account. The areas in which Kensington Prep excelled include the leadership of the school, the quality of the teaching, the breadth of the curriculum and the conclusions of the most recent school inspection report. The Parent Power table is based on the level 5 outcomes at Key Stage 2 from 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Alastair McCall, editor of The Sunday Times Parent Power said: “Kensington Prep’s award is thoroughly deserved. It has been a consistently strong performer in our tables over many years, but what sets it apart is the inspiring leadership of Mrs Lynch and innovations in the curriculum such as the timetabling of creative thinking. Exam success is almost incidental at this school, a bi-product of everything else it does – which is of course how it should be. The result is happy and engaged girls with a sense of purpose and a belief that they can succeed.”
“We are absolutely delighted to be named ‘Independent Preparatory School of the Year’ by the Sunday Times, says Mrs Prudence Lynch, Head of Kensington Prep School.
“We aim to prepare girls to face the challenges of a changing world by encouraging flexibility of thought, questioning thinking and individuality. Despite our outstanding academic results, we never for a moment think of ourselves as an academic hothouse. We provide a warm, caring environment in which girls can develop the courage to take calculated risks in their learning. We also place great emphasis on offering a broad, exciting curriculum. We are proud to have such a committed and talented staff, such supportive parents and such fabulous pupils, who together make the school the happy, successful place it is.”
