All parents automatically become members of the Kensington Parents' Association (KPA) once their daughter joins the school. The KPA is a thriving and enthusiastic association which organises social events for parents and other school activities and helps to raise funds to provide additional items and facilities.
Each form has a KPA representative who co-ordinates activities such as parent coffee mornings, social evenings, volunteers for school trips and preparing the weekly nit rota!
Form representatives keep in touch with parents to notify them of school activities and events, often via email, using a contacts list which they have compiled at the beginning of the year. This list is only to be used for KPA matters and is not disclosed publicly.
An important role for the Association is to help raise funds for the school. Items which the school has been able to purchase thanks to the Association include new gym equipment, a new piano for the hall, and recently and exceptionally, KPA raised funds which enabled the creation of a new outside play space.
An annual Christmas Fair and the summer term Carnival are the main fundraising occasions. Additional events such as a Quiz supper may also be organised and funds are also raised through the second hand uniform sales.
Mrs Lynch is the President of the Association. KPA has five elected officers - Chair, Events Secretary, Development Secretary, Treasurer, and Secretary. Two members of staff also sit on the committee.
The committee meets two or three times a term and an AGM is held during the first half of the autumn term. Parents are invited to volunteer as Form representatives and are voted in at the AGM (for a year-long term of office). Guest speakers and events may also be organised for the girls and parents. A KPA subscription is charged annually on the Extras Bill; the amount will be notified in advance.
